What do you do when you are done living?
She decided long ago: ‘If I ever fall ill, I don’t want to continue living.’ Lies is almost 85 and determined to not turn 86. But it is not easy to stop living if you are still healthy. A 'Death pill' is still not available, so how do you get the right medicine? No one is aloud to help you and few people will understand. And how will your children respond?
For VPRO Plots Eefje collaborated with Laura Stek for the story about the 85 year old Lies. The story can be listened to here (in Dutch). The radio documentary ‘One Night Secretly’ was nominated for the Prix D’Italia 2014 and was selected for the yearbook of narrative journalism.
Eefje also wrote a story for Vrij Nederland, combined with photography by Wouter Jansen.
